I´m going to apologize in advance for my grammar and typing errors. This keyboard is not exactly in English and there are no question marks, at signs, colons, emdashes etc.
Day 1 Heredia
Well, Matt´s friend, Carlos aka Charlie, was so incredibly nice last night and picked me up at the airport! After 45 minutes at immigration, this was such a treat. I felt spoiled! Also it made the overwhelming ¨exiting the airport¨ experience so simple since I didn´t have to respond to taxi drivers or fight with them to turn on the meter.
Today, I´ve just been walking around this random little city, writing, reading. I feel like I went to sleep in the United States and woke up in another world. There is definitely a bit of culture shock for me. I´m not in a tourist town so English is not widely spoken. I feel like I´m the only non native walking around. Its cool, though, because I´m clearly having a truly authentic experience. Of course, this also means that I ate cake for breakfast. It was the only thing I recognized so I just pointed to it! Don´t worry, I also got a coffee. Ha!
When I try to reply to someone in Spanish, any language might come out of my mouth...portuguese, spanish, or hebrew. Its a crapshoot. My brain just isn´t in Costa Rica yet! I will say the little portugese I know is helpful since it´s easy to figure out the spanish equivilent. For example, De'scoo'pa in portuguese means excuse me and in Spanish its des coopa may.
There isn´t a lot to do here... so i´m sort of just wandering. I´m looking forward to when Carlos and friends get off of work so they can entertain me!
